Emil Keme has been awarded the prestigious Casa de Las Americas prize for Studies on American indigenous cultures for his book Le Maya Q’atzij (Our Maya Word): Poetics of Resistance and Emancipation from Iximulew (1960-2012). The book offers a critical analysis of the literary works of ten contemporary Maya writers in Guatemala—Francisco Morales Santos, Luis de Lión, Humberto Ak’abal, Gaspar Pedro González, Victor Montejo, Maya Cu Choc, Rosa Chávez, Sabino Esteban Francisco, Pablo García and Manuel Tzoc—and highlights the contributions and limitations of each creative project.

Congratulations, Emil!
