Fredy R. Grefa
Fredy R. Grefa is a Napo Runa or the People of the Napo River of the Ecuadorian Amazon. He obtained his Ph.D. in the Department of Geography at UNC-CH in Spring 2020. He is a indigenous geographer studying indigenous peoples in the northern Ecuadorian Amazon displacement, colonialism, racism and the lack of support to continue existing as ancient cultures. His research is being carried in the Northern Ecuadorian Amazon on the implications of a Payment for Ecosystem Services program (The Programa Socio Bosque) in a Napo Runa Community (WamanÃ) and analyzes how indigenous values about nature-society relations are challenging and redefining the market-based conservation logic at the heart of PES.
